Sangria

The Summer Staple Sangria. That ever so popular warm-weather brunch juice is all to often an adulterated jug wine sold at $7 a pop for a 6 ounce glass already full of 2 ounces of ice. We now shall show you how to pull this off properly and have it ready for the next time you bring home some pre-licked hepatitis Taco Bell.

Sangria really is a racket.  Places take wine which has sat out for too long, add some crap to it and then sell it at $7 for a 6 ounce glass that already has 2 ounces of ice in it.  This bullcrap ends now!

There are too many red wines to name that will totally work for this.  From Hungarian Bull's Blood to California Mass-Market.  The Sangiovese you see here was picked at a price of $5 (well 2 for $10) from Best Buy Wine and Spirits in Brooklyn.

You don't need to slice the apple as thin as the other stuff.  But core it so that the seeds don't come loose and float around in there.

You can obviously add more or less depending on how you like it.

This is a really important step.  While the restaurant stuff is maybe an hour old and adulterated with grenadine or Hawaiian Punch (seriously I've seen this happen), this will be the real deal, and the one thing you can't do is try to hurry it up.

Seriously, the fruit has given up all it's gonna give, and ice cubes will just splash into your glass and send little drops out to stain your shirt.  Just avoid them.

What you see here is Strawberry Jarritos, Doc's Draft Cider (much better than the overly sweet candy sticky JK Scrumpy yuckieness from Michigan), Risata Moscato d'Asti, and plain seltzer.

Sit back relax and enjoy.  Stick it in a fruit punch bottle and no one is gonna give you shit for drinking this in the park.

We take a trip to King's County Distillery

Champagne Coctails for Valentine's Day

We're back with a special episode of Pinky Mixology! This episode features love, romance, booze, and a special pair of guest hosts! Making their first appearance here on Pinky Mixolgy are the Nendoroid Panty & Stocking for your enjoyment.

Today, we'll be covering those sparkling wine concoctions that seem to be all the rage these days. Here's how to make one. Also, keep in mind that (if for some reason you actually want to), these can all be made with many non-alcoholic beverages such as sparkling cider like Martinelli's, ginger ale/7up, seltzer water, club soda,  ...but probably not Diet Coke though.

You'll notice that there's a Martinelli's in there. Like I said, you can use that to make a 100% non-alcoholic version of this ...if you're into the tea-total thing. But then again if you are, I don't think you'd be hanging around this site. Anyway, as for other bubbly wine options: The sweetest would be Moscato Frizzante, but the most widely available and easy on the wallet would be Prosecco.

Believe it or not, despite being an insane racist christian fundamentalist prohibition-fixated fun-hating cunt-burger who routinely engaged in the frequent criminal destruction of private property , Carrie Nation was once semi-hittable:

Maybe if she put down God's Big Book of Bad Ideas and got laid more often (or at all), she wouldn't have turned out like this:

Kill it with fire!

Always always add a tiny pinch of salt to this as well.  Without it, you won't taste the awesomeness to its full potential.  This is a good rule to follow for all things that are meant to be sweet.

A Chinoise is also called a China-Cap and is one of those over expensive things they sell at Williams & Sonoma that rich people buy while pretending they're not rich because they're cooking their own food.

Will this be the first of many Nendoroid appearances? ...no. These things can't stand up on their on and slipped and slid around like they were buried in wrist deep Santorum ...see there it is.

Next Time (We're really gonna do Infusions).

Know your stuff: The best Wine and what it's bottled in. Corks vs screw tops.

OK, Lindsey Lohan crazy straw wine in a box aside, wine has always been seen as something snooty. If you have to feel all Hipster Ironic and drink something from the bottom of the food chain, you can always remind yourself that during Ancient Rome and Egypt, wine was the drink of choice of the kind of class of people that you pretend to be in touch with.

But some people still think that a screw top instantly means it's Night Train or Ripple. Is this still true? Only the anime firgures of Pinky Street can tell us.

This was before we discovered wine in a tetrapack.

Based on a true story.

All corks pictured are synthetic corks.
Wines Pictured: 2004 Yarraman Estate Hell Raiser Cab Merlot Blend (Australia), and 2005 Sacha Lichine le Coq Rouge Vin de Pays d’Oc (France). Both found for a very good price at Heights Chateau (in 2007). And BOTH use screw-tops.

Pinky Wine
Corked wine = bad.
Now you can feel free to enjoy sophistimucated wine even if it doesn't go pop with a cork like in dem picture shows. And screw tops are great for when you are taking pulls @ work and you gotta throw the bottle back in it's horizontal hiding place before the boss comes in for the first time all day at 2pm high on coke, asking if his 3 pending secxual harrassment lawsuits have progressed any... ...'scuse me, I gotta unscrew enough tops to not care about life anymore.
